About

About this directory

A free, independent directory of 587 local businesses in the Greater Toronto Area, in Russian and English.

It exists because those businesses are scattered across printed booklets that are hard to search and impossible to link to.

Where the information comes from

Each listing was read from a community publication or a business's own website. We publish the facts — name, category, phone, address, website — and a short description we write ourselves from the business's ad and website. We do not reproduce anyone's advertisement text or printed artwork, and we do not publish email addresses. An owner can correct or remove anything with one email, and we do it the same day.

Photos

Photos of places in Ontario come from Wikimedia Commons, where photographers publish under open licences; each one is credited on the photo credits page. We never take photos from social media, Google or ads.

A business's card shows a picture only when it is of that business: sent by the owner, published on Wikimedia Commons, a street-level photo from Mapillary taken at its address, or a photo from the business's own website — credited to the business and linked to the page it came from. A business without such a photo shows its category's picture on its card, tinted in the category colour so it isn't mistaken for the place, and no picture on its own page. Its logo, from its own website, is shown next to its name. An owner can replace or remove any picture or logo with one email, and we do it the same day.

Websites and opening hours

We load every listed website; one that no longer exists is not linked. Opening hours and wheelchair access come from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors (Open Database Licence), where it lists the same business at the same address.

Map locations and “near me”

Businesses are placed on the map from the address or town in their listing, using Natural Resources Canada's Geolocation Service for street addresses and the Canadian Geographical Names Database for town centres. Solid pins are placed from a street address; hollow pins mark the town, and are approximate. Listings that give only a phone number are not on the map. Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Canada. Map tiles © OpenStreetMap contributors.

“Near me” asks your browser for your location and sorts the list on your own device. Your location is never sent to us or stored.

It is free, and it stays free

Listing is free. Correcting your listing is free. Removing it is free and takes one email.
